What should I give my teething, biting puppy?

Do you have a big chewer at home? Or a teething puppy? We feel your pain.

Even though chewing can be a big nuisance in our homes, chewing is actually good for our pets! Especially when it comes to dental health, the more a dog chews and bites on the right toys, the stronger, cleaner and healthier his or her teeth will be!

The key is making sure we have the right tools at home so our dogs can chew appropriately. The most important "NO" when it comes to chew bones is RAWHIDE. Rawhide is not digestible and can actually get stuck inside your pet, requiring surgery to remove. Regardless, uneducated pet owners may be drawn to purchase rawhide, as it is still sold in many large chain stores and pet stores. It often comes in fun shapes and pretty colors - but beware, it is NOT your friend.

All of the chews that we recommend are 100% digestible. There are three popular options that keep customers coming back for more:

1. Bullsticks - made naturally from bull tendon, bull sticks or "bully sticks" are one of the most popular chew bones for dogs. They are tasty, mentally stimulating and a wonderful treat. Depending on your dog, they can last days or minutes. While bullsticks have a reputation of being smelly or stinky, our bullsticks are known to not have an odor! Especially our most popular shape, the Flossies. Rest assured when giving this tasty chew, your pet will be safe, happy and occupied.

2. Yak Cheese - becoming extremely popular in recent years, yak cheese are natural and long lasting treats made from yak milk. If you have a pet who goes through bullsticks quickly, likes a chew that is harder and more durable, and is bored of deer or elk antlers, yak cheese is for you. They are extremely long lasting and 100% digestible. And we hear they are super tasty ;)

3. Antlers - Deer and elk antlers have been a popular chew for as long as we can remember! Antlers are extremely long lasting and popular for their marrow. This chew will keep your dog occupied for weeks, or even months! Pro tip - boil your antler with a bullion cube for added flavor when your dog gets bored!

If you're not in favor digestible chews, there are many safe alternatives like Kongs and Nylabones. For chewers who get bored quickly, we recommend having a variety of options on hand so when your pup goes for the furniture you can swiftly redirect them :)
